The
SEACAL data acquisition system is a deep water, acoustic
data collection system designed primarily for bottom-moored,
subsurface applications. The system digitizes and records
up to 32 hours of acoustic data from as many as 26 externally
located hydrophones, storing the data in digital form
on standard VHS cassette recorders. The system consists
of an electronic chassis, battery pack, mounting frame,
flotation package, and pressure proof housing designed
for 20,000 ft. submergence. The on-board microprocessor
control unit permits continuous or sampled data recording,
and also records digital Date/Time and depth data along
with the acoustic data. Data tapes recorded by the SEACAL
system are played back on a companion playback system.
